GetResponse Vs Mailchimp
Which Is the Best Option For You?

Writing and sending emails can be considered forgotten and “old school” by people in general. However, for today businesses—especially B2B and B2C industries—it’s still regarded as one of the most important and useful marketing strategies to create engagement with your audience and potential clients.

Many platforms allow you to automate and control your email marketing, and two of the biggest ones are Getresponse and Mailchimp. In this review, we will dive deep inside these two platforms to help you choose which one is the best for your interests, business, and of course, your budget.

What Are Getresponse and Mailchimp?

MailChimp and Getresponse are email marketing tools that enable you to import and host a database that contains email addresses and capture data onto it using website forms for signing up.

They also let you design HTML newsletters that you can send to your subscribers. They allow you to automate your emails via features called autoresponders, and they enable you to monitor statistics concerning your email marketing. It includes open rates, click-throughs, and forwards.

The main difference between these two platforms relies on Getresponse’s evolution.

Now Getresponse is better known as an all-in-one marketing tool and has included many features that MailChimp doesn’t have; it supports webinars, sales funnels, and CRM sales pipelines. However, MailChimp has not stayed that much behind of its competition, today it also offers an all-in-one solution and CRM functionality.

They are both platforms that sell themselves as the only solution if you want to launch or take your business online and do it the right way.

Both of these systems have a lot of users and followers that are real examples of the success of these platforms. However, it depends on how you want to build and make your business grow; parting from that one tool will take you where you want.

The Good And The Bad: Getresponse

Getresponse is known as an email marketing platform. It allows creating a valuable marketing list of prospects, partners and clients. This way, you can build relationships with them and develop a responsive customer base.

Getresponse sells itself as the most straightforward email marketing system, servicing businesses in more than 180 countries with over 1 billion subscribers every month.

With Getresponse, you can add contacts, make a contacts lists to manage your database, and import an existing contact list. It also lets you integrate your Getresponse account with other services and products, and use social media tools that give you an easy way to have control of your social referrals.

With Getresponse, you have access to drag-and-drop editors; you can use autoresponders and create automation workflows.

Getresponse is very famous for its autoresponders and how they help to follow up with customers automatically. It sends them info, offers, and all types of communication.

Getresponse lets you search contacts and create unlimited segments based on specific demographics and customer behavior to manage your list and use the right marketing strategies that match your customers’ expectations.

You can track, analyze, and gauge your efforts efficiently. This tool gives you the power to view hourly movements, measure conversions, and make intelligent decisions quickly.

With Getresponse, you don’t need to know a lot about technology or coding to use all its marketing and email automation tools to boost your business. One of the best parts is that you don’t need a credit card to sign up for the free trial, and it allows up to 1,000 contacts.

Getresponse is full of powerful features and tools to give your email marketing campaigns the boost it needs in effectiveness to provide you with the results you want.

You can create delicate and sophisticated emails with the email creator tool, and they are optimized on any device. It lets your business reach everybody, especially the ones who are regularly using smartphones or tablets to access your content.

Getresponse also gives you more than 500 professionally-designed email templates that can get you started in a beat.

Also, Getreponse gives you multiple ways to build a subscriber list. If it’s small, you can key in the email addresses; if it’s significant, you can upload the file or link with third-party solutions.

You can set up campaigns by using the email creator tool or the HTML tool.

You can even track your campaigns; the Getresponse dashboard displays all your campaigns in one place. You can view the info that is useful for you, such as the number of contacts that received and opened your email. It provides you with a tracking tool that is integrated with Google Analytics.

There aren’t many drawbacks about Getresponse, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist..

A lot of Getresponse users tend to complain about the templates looks; they don’t look as sophisticated as many other options from other platforms.

Getresponse templates do look a little bit old and overused. The design and customization options are minimal, and there isn’t much you can do to them.

Moreover, speaking about customization, the email templates option to do so are quite confusing and hard to understand.

One final drawback from Getresponse is that you have to leave the automation builder to create emails and that—for some people—is a waste of time.

The Good And The Bad: Mailchimp

MailChimp is a platform that allows you to have the ability to create and manage your mailing lists, e-newsletters, automated campaigns, and a lot more. MailChimp lets you have full control over your email marketing from the beginning to the end.

MailChimp is very well-known for being simple and easy to use, and the software provides you with access to a collection of email marketing tools: all in one place.

Email marketing importance relies on the connection with your customers. Through it, you can create and maintain a loyal relationship with your customers. This way, you can maintain the interest and increase sales. That is what MailChimp gives you.

No Learning Curve

Getting started with MailChimp is way too easy. After you create your list, you are then able to initiate your campaign. The best part of MailChimp is that you don’t need to have any type of HTML or coding knowledge to build a beautifully designed newsletter. You can choose one from the very vast collection of templates that MailChimp offers you.

Automate Easily

MailChimp also provides you with the option of automating email campaigns. This option helps you organize and personalize your brand and improve the intercommunication between your customers and your business. That is one of the most important aspects of a successful business.

Preview Easily

MailChimp also gives you the chance to do inbox preview and testing, and it provides a valuable inbox preview tool that let you see how your email is going to look for your clients; this tool helps you make sure your mailing looks good no matter where it’s being received.

You can also target your subscribes geographically. This way, you promote services or products for a particular city or state. It allows you to target the audience that you want when you want to.

MailChimp, just like everything, has its drawbacks.

The first issue with MailChimp is that its integration with WordPress and Paypal leaves out a lot, and it’s not always the best. This point makes it hard for user who plans to have a membership site to accomplish their ideas and goals.

Another drawback about MailChimp is that it reserves the right to suspend or cancel your account. If you are getting too many unsubscribe notifications or spam complaints, MailChimp has the right to cancel or suspend your account without warning.

Creating Templates Take Time

One major drawback for MailChimp users is that you have to create your templates. The ones provided by MailChimp are pretty much basic and not attractive for readers.

This means that you’ll have to spend more time and money trying to change the forms and getting them the way you want, and for most people, that is time that they could have spent growing their business.

Interface May Seem Cluttered

The MailChimp interface can feel awkward and unclear for some. This platform takes a lot more time to design and organize a campaign than other platforms out there; this point can become a time killer.

The fact that MailChimp doesn’t let you send out emails to only one list at a time is a dealbreaker for many. You are allowed to customize the list, but you can’t send emails to multiple subscriber lists at once.

Like any product and service out there, MailChimp is not for everyone, and those are the things that MailChimp doesn’t deliver very efficiently. You should consider them before you choose it as your digital marketing tool.

When it comes to autoresponders, both Getresponse and Mailchimp provide extensive autoresponder functionality. They offer a similar set of triggers to choose from, such as a subscription to a list, clicks, opens, purchase made, and user data changes.

With both platforms, you get autoresponder triggers like actions; when somebody clicks or opens a link inside an existing email, they will be added to a set of autoresponders automatically.

However, to decide which one is the best, you have to check the interface they use to create them and how much it costs to access its functionality.

A Unique Approach

Getresponse enables you to manage emails via a sophisticated and unique approach; it’s very straightforward to implement. On the other side, MailChimp also allows you to build a similar subscriber trip, but it gives you a more template-based approach. In this regard, Getresponse is more flexible and intuitive to use than MailChimp.

Monthly Limits

When it comes to limits, MailChimp introduces monthly limits on the number of newsletters you can send to your lists. On the other hand, Getresponse allows you to send an unlimited number of emails per month on all its plans.

Good Many Email Templates

Both Getresponse and MailChimp provides you with a variety of email templates you can use. When speaking about quantity, Getresponse has a lot more models than MailChimp, but if we talk about quality, Mailchimp has better-looking ones, more slick and sophisticated.

With both platforms, you can customize the templates very quickly, and you can even use your HTML code on both systems to design your template.

Edit Templates Easily

About editing email designs, both Getresponse and Mailchimp enable you to edit your templates using a drag-and-drop editor, and each is very user-friendly. In this crucial point, Getresponse interface has some bugs now and then, and it’s more on the fiddly side.

Mailchimp, on the other hand, is better when it comes to dragging and dropping.  Is way too easy to put items in the wrong place in your email with Getresponse.

Is Mobile Friendly

These platforms also let you create mobile-friendly versions of your emails. With Getresponse, you can handle previewing on your mobile version while you are using the drag and drop editor to create your email in real-time.

Preview Easily

You can also preview your smartphone email version with MailChimp too, but not in real-time; it also involves additional clicks. Getresponse’s mobile preview lets you see how your email looks on the device when the email is being viewed in landscape or portrait.

Now, let’s talk about split-testing or A/B testing. That is a critical feature of email marketing; it enables you to try out a mixture of subject headers on some data before choosing the best one for you.

Test Multiple Versions Successfully

Getresponse, allows you to test up to 5 different versions of your email and try different variables. Said variables can be content, time of day and time of week, and subject line; it doesn’t matter what type of Getresponse plan you are using. MailChimp only enables you to split-test three different versions of your email.

You have to be on a premium plan to use them. Once you are subscribed to the premium plan, you’ll be able to split-test 8 variants of your newsletters against each other.

Easy Integrations

Another feature both these platforms shares are integrations; they both integrate a massive range of other services, such as Paypal, Facebook, BigCommerce and Magento.

For many servicez, Mailchimp tends to be a default option. These services include Squarespace and Facebook, while Getresponse seems to rely quite a lot on a third-party tool for many of its integrations.

This point doesn’t mean that you’ll have a hard time with integrations and Getresponse, but at times, with services like Squarespace, is easier to use MailChimp.

Keep Your Designs

When adding a sign-up for your website, both Getresponse and Mailchimp allow you to design your sign-up forms and add code. With Getresponse, the options are a bit more far-reaching, and you can also choose from a spectrum of pre-designed form templates.

MailChimp is better for creating forms for using on mobile devices, and its pop-up forms, unlike Getresponse, are responsive. It automatically displays a more discreet banner version of them on smartphones.

This point quite relevant from an SEO perspective.

Access Forms Easily

MailChimp also allows you access to iPad and Android forms that you can use for capturing data via tablets or events. This is something Getresponse used to enable you to do, but over time, it got discontinued.

Both Getresponse and MailChimp have great and useful features; it’s your choice to analyze this information and pick the one that fits your business.

MailChimp gives you four pricing plans. The first one is free; you get a very cut-down version of the product along with an advert for Mailchimp at the bottom of newsletters.

The second plan is the Essential, which starts at $9.99 a month and you can send emails up to 1,500 subscribers.

The third is the Standard plan, this one starts at $14.99 a month, and you can send emails to 2,500 subscribers.

The last one is Premium, starting at $299 a month you can send emails up to 10.000 subscribers.

Getresponse also gives you four plans, from Basic to Enterprise.

The Basic plan starts at $15 a month, and you can send an unlimited number of emails to 1,000 subscribers.

Then comes the Essential plan, which starts at $49 per month, and the Professional program cost $99 a month. With both of them, you can send unlimited emails to 1,000 subscribers, and you get a lot more features for building and launching your business.

The last plan is the Enterprise plan, which starts at $1,199 per month, and you can have a list of more of 100,000 subscribers.

Ease Of Use

Both platforms sell themselves as easy to use platforms and very user-friendly. When it comes to ease of use, MailChimp tends to be more on the friendly side than Getresponse.

As mentioned before, Getresponse tends to have bugs along the way, and it’s not difficult to mess up your work. Meanwhile, MailChimp gives you more control of what you are doing and where you put your widgets and features on the template.

Speaking of customer support, Getresponse used to be a winner in this crucial point. It used to offer phone, live chat, and email support. Mailchimp just delivered email or live chat support.

Now, Getreponse has cut off their phone support on all but their $1,199 per month plan, the Enterprise plan. MailChimp offers phone support with its Premium plan of $299 a month.

Both platforms provide excellent customer support, but Getresponse’s is way more expensive.

Final Verdict

When it comes to deciding which one is better, it depends on your need and your expectations.

In terms of flexibility and the ability to make your business grow with not just email marketing, the right choice will be Getresponse. MailChimp is still a great platform, more budget-friendly and easy to start with if your objective is email marketing.

However, Getresponse can take your business further.
