As you first sign up, you’ll need to submit your profile info.
This includes information like the name of your company, industry, website address, size of the company, size of your list and even what kind of content you are willing to share.
Then, you need to verify the domain name of your website.
All of this is part of the approval process, and MailerLite will ask if your email is affiliated to that domain so they can send you a verification link.
Then, when you’ve finished those steps, you’ll need to wait. The MailerLite team will review your application, your website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their service.
I was accepted within a couple of hours, which gave me a temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Maybe these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, but they do help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
Having control over your subscribers is one of the most important aspects of any email marketing software today because this kind of personalized campaigns is vital if you’re aiming to increase visits, clicks, and conversions.

Email Marketing Campaigns
It’s always great to rely on automation to handle the majority of your email marketing. But whether you have a blog, podcast, or announcement, there’s always reasons for sending more emails.
That’s where Campaigns start. Clicking ‘Create Campaign’ will give you many options.
- Regular campaign: A typical broadcast email.
- A/B split campaign: Various email variations, including subject line, from the name to the email content.
- Auto resend: It resends to those who don’t open your broadcast email, with the alternative of making changes in the subject line and email content.
- RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign that will send new content to subscribers that uses your website’s RSS feed.
Then, when you choose to create your campaign, you’ll have to choose an editor: drag-and-drop, HTML or rich text.
However, you can always switch to the templates tab and choose from one of their already pre-designed email templates—getting you into the drag-and-drop editor by default.
And, of course, if you’d like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the ‘Recent Emails’ tab.
The editor is simple to work with, which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
After making your changes, click ‘Done Editing’, and you’ll be taken to the recipients’ options. There, you can select your groups or segments.
Finally, right before sending, you will arrive to the ‘Schedule’ screen. It is where you direct when your broadcast email should go out, whether that’s immediate, at a set time, or according to your subscribers time zones.
MailerLite features a good set of form building tools. Also, it leads you to create popups and landing pages through this same interface.
Let’s start with your standard embedded form.
You create these forms inside MailerLite to get an embed code ; you may then put them on your website and show it on specific pages.
Despite starting super fundamental, the form designer allows you to customize whatever you want: from the form style, background, title, fields and more.
Form text can be edited directly, too. It gives you a chance to watch your copy in real-time.
Selecting the ‘Settings’ tab will permit you to configure how the form functions, including adding additional fields and setting a custom site.

At last, you can select the behavior of your form in the ‘Settings’ tab.
Automating Email Marketing
If you previously have used a visual workflow builder, you’ll immediately feel at home here.
Much like the rest of MailerLite, the automation interface is simple, clean and comfortable to navigate—something that isn’t the norm for many email marketing programs.
With this tool, you can start adding steps to your workflow: anything from sending an email, a conditional split, adding a delay, or an action, such as subscribers movement or updating their records.
There are infinite chances when it comes to workflow automation like this, and MailerLite should have no issues with the majority of use cases.
Of course, it’s not quite as feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements.
For example, there’s still no automation for subscribers movement directly.
You can still take advantage of those functions by moving subscribers from different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just not as functional as others.
Besides, another issue here is when you try to create new emails from the automation workflow.
When adding an email block to the workflow builder, you’ll need to insert your subject line, which then displays on the block itself. Then, clicking the ‘Design email’ button will setup the editor tool.
Therefore, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automation.
Tracks and Reports
In this type of software, you will find a summary of your campaign stats in its main dashboard.
There, you will learn from campaign views and clicks data to subscriber growth, form signups and automation stats.
Getting into any campaign will give you a detailed report.
Here is where you find some more advanced stats such as spam complaints, unsubscribes, reading environment, email client and bounces.
This is loaded with information for the regular user, but if you want to get into the numbers, you can click into specific areas of this report for a deeper breakdown. You can find some really good info with these reports.
Reports for automation are also available under the ‘Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Finally, MailerLite does superb work with their reporting interface, and most will find the available stats as more than enough to meet their needs.
MailerLite price is, without a doubt, one of the tool’s most significant selling points.
For beginners, they offer you an unlimited free plan that includes all features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscriptions.
Let’s talk about the premium plans. They are around half the price of its competitors on average. MailerLite is one of the cheapest alternatives on the market. If you are willing to pay annually, you can get an even better discount.
I can’t think of other software like this one that does the same job, cheaper.
Mailerlite has the most affordable prices in the industry. While MailChimp is $40 monthly for basic plans, Mailerlite costs you $10 monthly. This plan allows you unlimited emails and every premium feature as well. Each program has a 24/7 support service.
For users who have a list bigger than 50,000 subscribers, make sure you contact the Mailerlite team before choosing your email marketing program. Again their heavy-duty plans are much less costly than most of their competition.
Besides, you can choose to pay in USD or in British Pounds if you prefer.
As a tip, if your budget lets you, opt for the annual plans, and you will save up to 30% extra on your yearly charges.
Pros & Cons
It’s a beginner-friendly software. It uses a tag-based system; it has powerful segmentation using rules. You have custom fields for advanced email personalization.
MailerLite Supports automation using visual workflows. It also has an easy-to-use email builder and template editor.
You have advanced campaign types and practical email elements, such as product boxes and countdowns. The forms, pop-up and landing page builder is intuitive.
MailerLite offers both digestible and in-depth reporting. It’s known for its quick support.
It has a strict approval process. Few email templates are available. It also lacks powerful features such as tag-based international funnelling and synchronizing system.
No support for site tracking is available, and it has few form templates. You can’t create emails without using the visual workflow builder. It has hidden rules for new account approval, and the overall registration process is annoying.
When you sign up at Mailerlite, you are required to complete a process for getting your account into the approval.
The process consists of filling your profile and putting your website domain email address. However, there is no guide on how to fill up those fields given in the account setup part. You must understand and do everything by yourself.
In a similar way, you need to have a custom email address that uses your domain. You can’t use free email accounts like a Gmail account.

MailerLite vs MailChimp
This is quite an exciting battle: MailerLite is a young contender with desirable costs. MailChimp, on the other hand, is a heavy-duty when it comes to email marketing.
MailChimp and MailerLite are a good mixture when it comes to email and websites tools. Both offer free or low-cost plans and are very easy to use.
Regarding automation, we see MailerLite slightly ahead of MailChimp. In this area, MailChimp isn’t that well-developed. Besides, MailerLite offers all their features to any customers, included in the free plan. It’s also remarkable to note that their paid plans are significantly cheaper than MailChimp’s.
MailChimp does offer more thorough reporting than MailerLite, so if the analysis is critical to you, then perhaps you should give them a chance.

MailerLite shines in the areas of user experience and simplicity, and it has enough features for most small business needs. Of course, being cheaper than a lot of other tools means that there are some drawbacks: the automation is a little thin, for example, and spam/design testing isn’t available.
MailerLite does the simple stuff better than any other tool out there, and if that’s what you’re after, then you should give it a spin.
