Food bloggers don’t make much compared to the other niche bloggers out there. Most of them probably only make less than $1000 a month, which is not sustainable enough to quit your job and do it full time. So, why are food bloggers not succeeding? Could it be due to people’s disinterest in the niche? Heck no. Food is an international language that everyone reveres. It’s also not because of the competitive market or successful food bloggers being better chefs, and no, it also has nothing to do with luck. Instead, what helped me to get ahead in the food blogging industry is a life-changing tool that I’m going to share with you today.
It took a few things to get where I am today. And honestly, I have never imagined where I am today, even in my wildest dreams! You need consistency, commitment, and an effective sales funnel. If you haven’t heard of sales funnels, then you’re already doing something wrong. In this article, we will explore ways to monetize your blog as you have never experienced before. It will not be any of those ‘how to run effective marketing campaigns’ kind of article either. I mean, that works, but I’m going to share something even better. It’s how I turned my blog from earning $0 a month to almost over $5,000 a month. However, this isn’t a get rich quick scheme. It took hard work, tears, and sleepless nights but being where I am today is so worth it. Now, let’s begin the article.
6 Steps to a Successful, Money Making Food Blog
Running a blog is a lot of work; there are just so many things that you need to worry about. Running a food blog is even worse. Thankfully, I’ve narrowed it down to six simple steps, and you will thank me at the end of the article.
1. Start a Food Blog
Running a blog is hard, but setting one up only takes a few minutes. All you need is to be able to follow a simple set of instructions, and you’re good to go. There’s help for this everywhere on the internet. A simple Google search can give you a bunch of video tutorials that you can follow. But before that, you need to ask yourself two questions:
a. Where do you want to host your blog?
A web host is like a home for your blog. Therefore, this is an important decision as you will need a reliable host that will not bring you difficulties in the future. Understandably, you would want to save money and go with a free host, but you need to ensure this free host is trustworthy. Or at least have a customer support team who will help you during downtimes.
This is important because sometimes your readers might complain that they’re unable to access your blogs or experiencing other difficulties. If this happens, you need to troubleshoot it with your host to get it up and running again. If the issue doesn’t get fixed or if your blog is down for a long time, your users might lose faith and go to another food blog.
I’ve been using Bluehost, and they’re very reliable. Bluehost makes it very easy to set up your blog, and their customer support is always available to help me out. Bluehost is not free, though, but I think it’s better to splurge (only a few bucks) on this now to ensure smooth running in the future.

b. What is your domain name?
Your domain name is also very important. It’s how you will be identified and how your readers can find you on the web. Therefore, it should be something short and catchy! Having said this, don’t waste too much time coming up with a catchy domain name that you delay your whole blog. I’ve seen this happen to many people.
You should also pick something that’s easy to spell and doesn’t contain random symbols or hyphens or capital letters.
At some point, you will have to choose between either a .com or .net ending. I’d suggest going with .com as it looks better and shows a global outreach. However, using .net doesn’t affect anything either.
Since you’re a food blog, come up with something accessible and relatable, like www.soup.com. If it’s overly complicated, readers might get frustrated looking for your blog and just give up entirely.
2. Create awesome content
Food bloggers have the most room for content ideas! If you’re stuck for content, just post recipes! I love going through millions and millions of recipes online. Although I rarely cook myself. Besides recipes, I also love looking at pictures of FOOD! So, if you’re ever stuck for ideas, just have these two, and I can guarantee you’ll be fine.
Creating content for your blog is a regular thing. You can get ideas from anywhere! You can post daily special recipes, or even a food diary if you’re traveling somewhere. Your blog is going to take some time to kick off, and you just need to be patient and post regular content. Then, your following will soon begin to grow.
Another way to grow your blog is via social media. You might have a larger following on your social media than your blog. The best way is to link both these platforms so one can benefit from the traffic from the other.
3. “Freebie” lead magnet
A lead magnet is something that captures your audience’s attention in exchange for their email address. Your reader’s email address is very important as it has the ability to convert them into paying customers. This lead magnet could be anything that can be deemed valuable by your customer.
